THY Bluffton High School Plays Drug Fact Trivia with 6th Graders • 01/21/2019 – 01/25/2019

January 21-25, 2019

Teens for Healthy Youth (THY) members at Bluffton High School taught National Drug Fact Trivia to ten 6th grade classrooms during National Drug Facts Week, January 21-25, 2019. They converted National Drug Fact Trivia information provided by NIDA into a kahoot game to engage the middle school students and enhance participation. The trivia educated the youth on the risks of using alcohol, tobacco, prescription pills, and marijuana. THY made a specific effort to highlight the harmful effects of e-cigarettes (JUULS and vapes) considering the local and national increase of teen use of these products. THY hope that peer to peer education will discourage these students from using drugs, especially during their transition from middle to high school when youth are at a greater risk of use. THY is an initiative of LowCountry Alliance for Healthy Youth (LCAHY), a recipient of the Drug Free Communities Grant.
