The LowCountry Alliance for Healthy Youth (LCAHY) hosted its fifth annual May Day 5K Race/Walk. 222 runners/walkers participated in the race. Medals were awarded to individuals and dogs at various age levels for first, second, and third place. The May Day 5K Race aims to unite the community to promote positive choices and healthy lifestyles for our youth by racing for a healthier community. LCAHY and Teens for Healthy Youth (THY), LCAHY’s Youth Coalition, staffed information tables to create an awareness of LCAHY and THY and provide prevention materials. LCAHY Board members and members of THY served as course marshals on the racecourse. Through LCAHY’s Community Board efforts, sponsors were solicited. Beaufort Memorial Hospital served as the Title Sponsor for the fifth year. See the flyer below for a list of race sponsors. LCAHY raised about $10,000 and had about $4,000 in-kind support. The annual May Day 5K Race is a component of LCAHY’s sustainability plan.
