Low Country Alliance for Healthy Youth (LCAHY) hosted its fifth annual faith-based breakfast for individuals representing churches and synagogues. Pastor Lawson, LCAHY’s CIA for the Faith based Sector and board member, introduced attendees to LCAHY’s history and mission and explained that LCAHY is a recipient of the Drug Free Communities grant. Pastor Lawson explained that youth mental health is a major pediatric public health issue that all community members need to care about. Pastor Lawson shared LCAHY’s website and its many resources and showcased LCAHY’s E-news on national health observances. In addition, Pastor Lawson highlighted initiatives of LCAHY. LCAHY’s Youth Summer Interns introduced participants to LCAHY’s Youth Coalition, Teens for Healthy Youth. As interns and members of THY they shared the mission and vision of THY and explained how THY addresses prevention and related risk factors in their schools and communities. LCAHY gave a call to action, asking Faith based representatives to support LCAHY’s goals by addressing mental health through scripture and by creating a welcoming atmosphere to address youth mental health. Faith based breakfast attendees were provided a folder with resources such as LCAHY’s Fact Card “What God Says About Wellness” and “Strength and Scripture”. Furthermore, LCAHY shared “In God's Image” a Prevention Plus Wellness program that addresses total health and wellness through a spiritual approach. The 12 attendees completed a resource and training need survey so LCAHY could follow up with the attendees and work together to address youth mental health. LCAHY plans to hold a faith-based breakfast each year to build important connections to the faith-based community sector. To view the Power Point Presentation Click here .
