Teens for Healthy Youth (THY) of Bluffton, Hilton Head Christian Academy, and Hilton Head Island High School participated in the Town of Bluffton Christmas Day Parade. THY members distributed over 2,000 3D Holiday Campaign messages attached to candy canes. The 3D Messages encourage people to be safe and healthy during the holidays by discouraging drunk, drugged, and distracting driving. The 3D messages were attached to candy canes and discouraged all from engaging in drunk, drugged, or distracted driving. Since 2012 LowCountry Alliance for Healthy Youth (LCAHY) has promoted the National 3D Prevention Campaign. LCAHY was founded in 2012 because of a car crash in which impaired teens were severely injured and a student died. THY has participated annually in the parade since serving as the grand co-marshals of the parade in 2019. THY were selected as the grand co-marshals in 2019 because of their initiatives to discourage drunk, drugged, and distracted driving. THY knows that the holiday season can be a time of increased car accidents and hopes to prevent possible tragedies by educating during the parade. THY plans to participate in the parade annually and use it as an opportunity to educate and create awareness for LCAHY’s Youth coalition, Teens for Healthy Youth.
