Teens for Healthy Youth (THY) Created Awareness for October National Bullying Prevention Month in their schools. THY Bluffton High School encouraged their peers to participate in National Unity Day on October 22nd, by having an orange dress-down day and by distributing orange bullying prevention bracelets and pins at the school entrance. Each school club signed an orange flag and placed it at the flagpole in the morning to show that the school is united in stopping bullying. They also allowed students to sign the bullying prevention banner during all lunches to promote an inclusive, kind, and accepting environment that does not tolerate bullying. This was showcased on Bluffton High and THY social media. THY also made a video to challenge each club and athletic team at Bluffton High to make their own video in which they maintained they stand united with THY against bullying. View video here. and here. These videos were part of the morning news throughout October. To see the morning news special click here No Cap Student News.
THY Hilton Head Island High School also engaged their school in Bullying Prevention Month. Students signed a pledge during their lunches to stop bullying and gun violence. Over 500 students signed the pledges. They presented their efforts during LCAHY’s October Board meeting. View their Canva presentation here.
THY at Bluffton Middle made their own posters to promote kindness and discourage bullying. Each THY group also displayed posters made by THY interns that educate teens on bullying and cyber bullying. They also had a dress down day where students could wear orange to show support for bullying prevention month. During lunch time, THY members gave their peers orange bullying prevention bracelets.
Throughout the month, THY Middle school at Hilton Head Prep School promoted a culture of kindness, respect, and empathy by creating awareness of bullying and the negative impacts of bullying. THY Prep gave out candy with messages that read “Boo 2 Bullying” and “Say no to bullying and yes to being sweet”.
THY Cross Schools created and presented skits at Cross schools to prevent bullying. THY is an initiative of the LowCountry Alliance for Healthy Youth. THY participates annually in National Bullying Prevention Month because they are aware bullying is a risk factor for teen use of alcohol and drugs and related risk behaviors such as depression and suicide ideation.
