Teens for Healthy Youth (THY) groups addressed stress during final exams and the holiday season by educating their peers about healthy ways to manage stress. THY at Bluffton High provided healthy ways to manage stress during the morning news program. Click here to watch the THY video. Cross Schools THY initiated “Paws on Stress”. Service dogs came to the school and provided the students with an opportunity to pet the puppies and de-stress before taking their exams. They also set up a hot chocolate stand where students could color and do other activities to help them de-stress. THY Cross made their own aromatic “Simmer Pots” for teachers to help them destress during the holiday season. Hilton Head Christian Academy made their own hot chocolate stand where students could get hot chocolate, fidget spinners, and tips for coping with exam stress. Hilton Head Island High School THY provided the THY Fact Card Coping with Exam Stress with candy to all first block classes to help students manage final exam stress. THY May River High School gave stress balls to students to help them cope with their exams. THY is aware that stress can lead to unhealthy behaviors and hope that sharing helpful and healthy ways to manage stress will keep their peers, school educators, and staff healthy during the stressful holiday season and exam time. Providing information on managing stress in healthy ways is an activity in LCAHY’s 12-month action plan under Strategy One, Providing Information, of the Seven Strategies of Change.
Hilton Head Christian Academy members set up a table with resources to help teens de-stress.
May River High distributed stress balls to their peers.
