May River High School Promotes May Mental Health Awareness Month

May 19th, 2022

Teens for Healthy Youth (THY) May River High School promoted May Mental Health Awareness Month to their peers at May River High. THY May River High distributed their own Green Ribbon Mental Health Awareness Wristbands to over 1,000 students and teachers during final exam weeks. Joy Nelson, Teens for Healthy Youth co-advisor, also brought in Justice, a comfort dog, to help students destress before their final exams. THY is aware that stress is a risk factor for substance use and that final exam week poses additional stress for teens. THY encouraged their peers to address stress in positive ways. Teens for Healthy Youth’s mission is to promote positive teen health throughout the year. Teens for Healthy Youth is an initiative of the Lowcountry Alliance for Healthy Youth (LCAHY).
