LowCountry Alliance for Healthy Youth (LCAHY) Community Board Member and Teens for Healthy Youth (THY) member presented to the Hilton Head Kiwanis Civic Organization. The purpose of the presentation was to educate HH Kiwanis about LCAHY and share its history, vision, role as a Drug Free Community Grant recipient, and introduce activities in the 12 Month Action Plan. Dr. Novince, LCAHY’s Principal Investigator for the DFC grant and LCAHY/THY’s consultant, developed a PowerPoint for the presentation. To view the presentation click here. Teens for Healthy Youth (THY) Co-President at Bluffton High, Amber Van Horn, presented on behalf of Teens for Healthy Youth to share about LCAHY’s Youth Coalition’s activities. Resources distributed included the LCAHY and THY brochures. In awareness of National Medicine Misuse Awareness Month, the LCAHY Rx fact card, fentanyl card, and a Deterra bag were also distributed. A positive outcome of the event was that a Hilton Head Kiwanis member and Deputy Parks and Recreation Executive Director of the Island Recreation Center, inquired about coordinating a “We ID the LCAHY Way” training, which provides festival servers with information on properly checking IDs. Pete Nardi, Hilton Head Public Service District General Manager and President of WateReuseSC, expressed an interest in including LCAHY’s Rx Fact Card Information in communications to community members. LCAHY hopes that presenting to the Hilton Head Kiwanis group will build the capacity of the civic organization sector of the community. LCAHY plans to present to additional civic organizations this grant period.
