LCAHY/THY Talk of the Town Interview • 9/23/2019

Joy Nelson a LowCountry Alliance for Healthy Youth (LCAHY) Board Member and Teens for Healthy Youth (THY) Advisor at May River High School and Kylie Nelson, youth representative on the LCAHY Board and THY Youth member at May River High School were guests on the television show, “Talk of the Town” on WHHI-TV. Joy Nelson provided the history of the coalition and spoke on how to get involved with the coalition. Kylie Nelson provided an overview and explained the goals of THY. She also discussed what she learned at the recent Teens for Healthy Youth Leadership Conference held at USCB. Joy Nelson mentioned that LCAHY and THY are planning to work on developing a policy for vaping signage. She also addressed LCAHY’s public health awareness campaign to be launched by WSAV. The campaign will educate the community to be part of the solution in preventing youth substance use by sending clear messages that drugs and alcohol are unsafe, unhealthy, and illegal. LCAHY hopes to do more media interviews in the future to create an awareness for the coalition and the youth coalition.
