Town of Bluffton Character Education Student of the Month Recipient

October 2018

Low Country Alliance for Healthy Youth (LCAHY’s) youth sector representative, Grayson Cummings, was recognized by the mayor at a Bluffton town council meeting as Bluffton High School’s 2018 October Character Education recipient for exemplifying the qualities of courage and tolerance. This youth serves at the President for Teens for Healthy Youth at her school and exemplifies Teens for Healthy Youth’s dedication to peer to peer education, community service, leadership, and advocacy.  This student was nominated by a teacher and chosen by the Character Education Committee for her role in teaching middle school students during National Drug Facts Trivia week, speaking during the LCAHY Community Opioid Crisis forum, and educating the community on prescription pill abuse during National Night Out, among other accomplishments.  At the recent inaugural THY induction ceremony, she encouraged her peers to use valor in their mission to convince their peers to reduce teen use of drugs and alcohol.  She is a role model to her peers and a youth leader in the LCAHY Coalition, whose vision is to unite the community in promoting positive choices.
